This article presents a preliminary version of the “Museum of Pure Form”, a virtual reality system where the user can interact, through the senses of touch and sight, with digital models of 3D art forms and sculptures. Two “Museum of Pure Form” systems are currently being developed at PERCRO, Pisa, Italy. One of these systems will then be tested inside several museums and art galleries around Europe by people normally visiting such institutions. The second system will be tested inside a CAVE system provided by another European institution. The system functionalities as well as its overall structure are presented.
